I have laid help upon the one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.
Psalm 89:19
Emphasis is that God gave help to the one who is mighty. The word mighty connotes that one may be mighty and be obviously self sufficient but we read that help was given to the mighty. The question we should ask is what does the mighty need help for? If it were the weak, desolate or feeble, it is still relatable. However, we read that help has been laid on the one that is mighty. So, if the mighty needs help, what happens to the weak.
There are actually men who are gifted and strong generally.
Psalm 89:15-33
The bible talks about Moses that he was mighty in speech and in deeds. Acts 7:22
The Almighty does not ignore the fact that some of his children who are mighty need help. He recognizes that even the mighty need help.
It is the help of God that makes a man.
Sometimes, it’s not the man that is strong or rich that enjoys some benefits but if such a man is helped he cannot be limited.
Ecclesiastes 9:11
I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all. What we are saying is that it is good to be skillful, for with God life is surely balanced. It is therefore not an attempt to embrace mediocrity. It is not an attempt to leave undone things that we are supposed to do.
Go all out, be skilful. Be good on yourself by investing in yourself. Such that when they count men in your field you should be among those caliber of people. We must be outstanding.
As God’s children we must leverage on the Spirit of God. It is not a sole right that believers must be the head. If we do not appropriate that, we may not be the head of our class. We must be the best. We must be skillful. We must be intelligent. We must be smart on our job. We must embrace excellence. We must go the extra mile. We must be the best. We should like ourselves by investing in ourselves. The quality of investment should help us on this.
We must invest in ourselves. We must pay utmost attention to what brings food to our table by improving our expertise. We must upgrade it. The only way to brace up is that we are investing in ourselves. We can position ourselves rightly in ten years if we strive to be better than what we are now.
It is good to be skilful, wise, intelligent and strong but there is a factor that is weightier than all these.
While you are waiting for the help of God to show up we must keep improving ourselves. The faith that hangs everything on God is an irresponsible faith. We must pick up our lives in the race of life and run.
There is something called the help of God aside from our skills. It is not just the helpless that needs help, the mighty also needs help.
Wealth is not exclusive to someone. It moves. It is not fixed geographically. We can choose a life. Men are living this life well regardless of where they find themselves.
It is not about the quality of degrees we have but, as long as it is within our power we should attend first to what is within our control.
There are people who got jobs that even first class people did not get. It all happens by time and chance. The help of God is the major factor.
Some people are not as intelligent as you, but where they are and what they are handling is mighty. You ask yourself a question “What do they have that I don’t have?” They have help.
Don’t let all the investment in your life go to waste, because some of you have invested so much in your life. The corresponding results in your life now are not at par with the efforts you have put in your life. Outside that kind of investment, you should also long for God’s help. Some people are in control of great things that are not even as smart as you. Life is hard outside the help of God.
The scriptures stated that David was a mighty man but he needed help. Let’s look at the life of David. David was at the backside of the wilderness. He was tending his father’s flock when Samuel declared his intentions of anointing a king. Jesse paraded all his sons except David but none was chosen. Nobody knew David was a mighty man nor his exploits.
The scripture spoke about the skillfulness of his hands and the integrity of his heart. David was smart and skillful but he would have died as a nobody at the backside of the house.
1 Samuel 16:11-13

David was skillful but it was not his skill that killed Goliath. While he shot the stone, the hand of God guided the stone. We can conclude that God was saying, you won’t waste your time, nor do trial or error, nor waste your efforts.
There was something David brought to that battlefield that others didn’t see. The Bible said, I have made help upon the one that is mighty. Goliath didn’t see the help of God that David was carrying. Who goes to battle without a sword? He went with the help of God. Even the king was intimidated by hearing people sing the praises of David, and how he defeated Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:50
It was that day that people began to see him as fit for the position of a King. With the help of God in David’s life, he exceeded the expectations of the nations. Saul killed thousands, and David killed tens of thousands. There are things and dimensions you will not be able to walk into without the help of God.
The day the heart of everyone moved towards David was the day he was marked as one who’d be good for kingship and this is attributed to the help of God in his life.
It’s by the help of God in David’s life he exceeded the expectations of the nations.
There are dimensions and barriers you will never break into except with the help of the Lord. Hence David was mighty but above all he was helped. Consequently everybody is skillful, intelligent , wise but few are helped of the Lord.
“Help is not a common factor”.
First thing David did was to pull himself away from everyone; “he referred to the army as the army of the living God
Secondly he took the battle away from the terrestrial where the giant was familiar with; he took it to another dimension and put the battle in the hand of God.
1 Samuel 17:45
Knowing what to say and how to answer to situations is also a function of the help of God; He said “I will fill your mouth and you will speak with wisdom that cannot be gain-said.
After the women sang of David’s victory, Saul tried pinning him down severally but he didn’t know that he cannot pin down a man that is helped by the Lord.
There are people you don’t fight at all; especially men and women that are helped by the Lord.
They don’t need to fight; God fights on their behalf, they don’t need to answer; God answers on their behalf.
You pray but you need help; there are times the holy Ghost wakes you up to pray but you can’t due to sheer tiredness but regardless the help of the Lord makes things happen for you.
May you not sleep at the time of battle but if you do then He who watches over Israel takes charge of you .
Arise by the Lord ; you’re talented but you need help. You’re smart but you need help.
When we talk about the help of the mighty, sometimes what you need is called “the voice of help”. It can come in the form of a recommendation; someone could go somewhere to speak about you and your exploits.
The voice of help comes in from of recommendation sometimes. It tells the world what you are capable of doing even when you don’t have the privilege to say it yourself or you are not there to say it to people who needs such exploit. You need Help.
Such was the beginning of the fulfillment of the dreams of many years. Such was the fulfillment/journey/beginning of Joseph actually coming to the fulfillment of that which he has seen many years.
Another is Daniel ,. Daniel 5:9-15:
What the king did not know about Daniel, the queen knew. She was able to tell the king about Daniel. The queen knew what happened in the days of the King’s Father.
The queen was rolling out the CV of a man who was not in the banquet house, he was not there, his voice could not be heard but the bible said the queen in the palace gave recommendation.
Daniel had the capacity to dissolve doubts – Daniel 5:12
There are power brokers, that their voice carries weight and they need to speak on your behalf and when God wants to help a man, he would place one around your life such that where you can’t enter, they can enter, doors you can’t open, will be opened.
Daniel was powerful and intelligent, his wisdom was described as the wisdom of the gods yet he was not where matters are discussed and somebody needs to speak for him.
What brought Daniel to where he got to? Was it his skills, talent, wisdom, or understanding? It was THE VOICE OF HELP.
There are platforms you will step into, the rest will be a history. With all that God has blessed us with, light and understanding dwells in us, we have excellent spirit but all that will have must be showcased/expressed/employed.
