Luke 15:12, Matthew 6:8-11 shows us that we have a portion with our father also.
Jesus is saying to us in Matthew 6:11 that we should walk up to our father and place a demand on our portion.
The idea of this message is for us to understand that there is a portion that belong to us with the father, therefore, we can’t walk on this side of eternity like one who is stranded. We should not operate like a man that does not have a portion with God.
If he promises us a daily bread, then our weekly, monthly, yearly bread is also guaranteed. What this means is that God is our father and we have a portion with him.
It is good to desire to see God’s will prospering upon the face of the earth and also prospering through our hands, if we have not accessed our portion, we can be limited. It is what is provided to us that we can take from in running the will of God on earth.
Even as the will of God is executed through us, we should also not neglect the fact that Jesus said we have a provision with the father. The provision that is available for us is with the father and Jesus said the same way we desire the will of God to prosper on earth is the same way we should demand for provision. There is a limitation to what we can actually do or be part of in seeing the will of God prosper.
The young man in Luke 15:12 said to his father “Give me the portion of goods that falls to me”, Jesus also instructs us to make demand. The young man asked his father, Jesus said we should ask our father too.
The young man went to his father boldly and made a demand of his father to give him, and Jesus said we should also make a demand of our father. God is our father and he must look out for us.
From the two scriptures, we can explain that we have a portion with God. David also gave us some insight into our portion with God. The younger son used the word “goods” as his portion but David said he won’t stay at the level of goods only, he went further to say God is his own portion.
It is a good thing that the good things of life can be our portion, David took it beyond the level of goods. David wanted the owner of the goods of life.
Psalms 145:15-16 NKJV “The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.”
Since our eyes are on him, he opens his hands. Our father is rich in every good thing. Our father is capable, able and dependable. We cannot be stranded, we have a portion with our Father.
Don’t fall a victim to the pitfall of removing God from the equation and the whole idea about provision. Don’t limit it to your efforts and salary.
Money is systemic, but there is a power behind the system that makes it work. We should look expectantly at God. We have a portion with God.
In Psalm 73:25-26, 142: 5 we see David calling God his portion.
Sometimes when a man is afraid it may connote that the man does not even know that he has a portion in God.
When God came to Abraham in Genesis 15, he was afraid and the only way God could quench his fear was to show him his portion. God spoke to Abraham and told him, “I am your exceeding great reward.”
Yet Abraham was still looking for what God will give him and God told him in verse 2 of the same scripture that “I am giving you me, and you are looking for what I will give you.”
When Abraham was bothered about “not having,” God was dangling before him, his portion in him. And that was the only way God could actually quench the fear that Abraham had. The reason why a lot of people will work as if they are stranded in their lifetime is because they don’t actually have a thorough understanding of their portion in God.
Basically, our portion is not just what the Father can give us, it’s the Father himself. You can’t have God and not have his goods.
What the devil wants is for you to fall into the pitfall of pity, not understanding the full potential of the Father that you have. It’s not even about what he can offer alone, it’s “who he is”.
Lines are fallen onto you in pleasant places. You have a goodly heritage.
When Jesus was perhaps afraid to carry the cross, he remembered this scripture, in Isaiah 53:12, where God promised his son a portion.
Isaiah revealed in his prophecy concerning Christ that in doing God’s will He will be allotted His own portion.
The matter of portion is so crucial in that it is needed to be walked in and comprehended fully for the fulfilment of destinies. Our future is in this portion. Until we walk with the Father in knowing this portion, we will still be limited. There is a limit to what our academic certificate and degree can do.
Isaiah 53:12
Therefore, will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
Hebrews 1:2
Hebrews 1:4, Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
There are things we have obtained by our inheritance. How did Jesus obtain the dimension of at the name of Jesus every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess…The scripture said He has obtained it by inheritance. He had a portion with the Father that made Him better than the angels.
This is seen in the Old Testament and New Testament. The matter of portion pertaining to Jesus was crucial, as this was needed in carrying out the plan and purposes of God. People that do well and do excellently well are those that know they have portion with the Father. They leverage it on the premise of the portion allotted to them. This is why this is more than citizenship.
Our portion should cut across nations of the earth. This is why someone will come into a city with just a bag, and in the next ten to twenty years it has emerged into a city. We have seen from the scripture how Moses took only his staff and divided the river by God’s instruction, and we know the aftermath of that Exodus of the children of Israel.
This understanding makes one to be ahead of someone that is even a citizen of such nation. We must always know that the Lord is our father. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof. We must always know that the Lord is our portion in the land of the living.
If the younger son in Luke 15:12 could make a demand for goods, we should also know we have a portion.
Ephesians 1:10-18
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,
He has gathered all things and gave me Christ. Everything the Father has He has put in Christ and now gave us Christ. He now gave us Christ as our portion.
The topic of inheritance is highly vital in the New Testament. The way Jesus obtained an excellent name we have also obtained an inheritance.
The riches of our inheritance are in Christ both in the earth and in heaven. He now offered us Christ. Christ is the package and the container of what the Father has given to us.
If the Psalmist can say the Lord is his portion in the land of living, so what is Christ to us. A lack of understanding of this will make us afraid.
Abraham, for example, kept reiterating he does not have a child. God kept telling him He is a shield and his exceeding great reward. We all know we need the good things of life. If all that we want are those things of life we should understand that we have much more beyond these good things of life.
We have the owner of the universe. We have the owner of the heaven and the earth. Christ has been offered to us. Christ remains our possession.
Colossians 1:12-13, Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
We are saints in the light. We are sharers and partakers of the saints in light. We have a portion with the father from what Jesus got for us. This understanding is meant to be functional in every aspect of our lives. Knowing your portion with God supersedes your needs. With this understanding, you cannot be stranded in life.
We shouldn’t have a mindset of lack. The Lord can bless you with networks, ideas and a lot more. Understanding the fact that your father said, even before you make a demand, he knows what you need. You should demand your portion. Don’t have the mindset of a victim. Our Father can bless you with ideas and with people. Do not limit it to physical resources.
Have the mindset that you have a portion with God your father. We are not meant to come to the father begging. We are to make a demand. For some, their portion requires that they will step into nations and prosper there. Like Isaac who prospered in a strange land. Each of us has a portion with God. Each of us has a portion in our industry and spheres of influence.
Some are aware of their portion and they leverage on it, they walk in the consciousness of their portion, no one can tamper or take up another person’s portion. Our lot is kept by the lord.
God wants to divide a portion to you among the great. If you also understand that his will must prosper in your hand. His agenda must prosper in your hand.
There are moments in our lives where we are at the lowest ebb, but that is not our portion with God. Understanding that you have a portion with God, you must take delivery of it. The good things of life are not excluded. We only have a better and superior understanding that we can start with goods but the end is the father. Laying hold of the fact that our portion is in Christ.
