ABOUNDING IN GOD'S ASSIGNMENT

We continue our series on divine purpose, focusing specifically on Abounding in God’s Assignment. We will explore what it truly means to abound in ministry, examining the apostolic philosophy of Paul regarding finishing and fulfilling the work that God entrusts to us.
Ephesians 2:10 KJV “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them”
To establish our foundational truth, let us examine Paul’s letter to the Ephesians
Scripture reveals that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works. There is a crucial distinction between natural creation and spiritual re-creation: while every human being is created by God, not every person is recreated in Christ. Creation precedes salvation, but re-creation occurs the moment an individual receives Christ.
The moment you are born again, you enter into a pre-ordained destiny. God did not leave your divine purpose to chance; before you ever came into spiritual awareness or consciousness, He had already mapped out specific good works for you to walk in.
It is entirely possible for a believer to be genuinely recreated in Christ yet fail to walk in their pre-ordained works. This failure is rarely a problem of divine provision; rather, it is a knowledge gap —a lack of spiritual light, awareness, and alignment.
Consider these truths regarding your salvation and divine assignment:
1. You are not saved BY good works —human merit could never achieve redemption.
2. You are saved UNTO good works—you were not redeemed merely to occupy space in the Kingdom of God, but to fulfill a specific assignment.
Our Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated absolute clarity regarding His purpose on earth. On the night prior to His crucifixion, He offered a profound declaration of completion to the Father:
John 17:4 KJV “I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.”
This verse represents the pinnacle of assignment consciousness. Jesus possessed unwavering clarity across four critical dimensions:
* He knew who sent Him-His Father in heaven.
* He knew why He came—to accomplish the redemption of mankind.
* He knew what He was given to accomplish—the specific works appointed to Him.
* He knew what constituted completion—enabling Him to declare, "I have finished”.
This leaves every believer with an essential Kingdom question: What has God entrusted to you that you must not leave unfinished?
The Apostle Paul adopted the same assignment consciousness as the Master. Addressing the elders at Miletus, Paul voiced his conviction
Acts 20:24 KJV “But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”
For Paul, ministry was not a title, a hierarchical position, or a professional career; it was a stewardship of divine trust. Notice his key vocabulary: received, ministry, course, and finish. The specific mandate Paul received from the Lord Jesus was to testify the gospel of the grace of God.
Near the end of his earthly journey, Paul wrote to Timothy with holy triumph:
2 Timothy 4:5 KJV “But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.”
2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”
Paul’s ultimate testimony was not that he was gifted, that he had vast platforms, or that he possessed numerous opportunities; his testimony was: ”I have finished”. A crown of righteousness awaits not only Paul, but every believer who faithfully runs their appointed race to completion.
To “make full proof of thy ministry” means to give full, unhindered expression to everything God has entrusted to you. Refuse to pass through this world without executing your God-given assignment.
Resolve never to leave this earth leaving behind:
* Songs that were never written or sung.
* Books that were never authored.
* People who were never discipled.
* Ideas that were never developed.
* Communities that were never served or reached.
* Asssignments that were never attempted.
Music in the body of Christ is not mere entertainment or emotional melody; it is a vital vehicle for conveying the gospel. A song is not a gospel song simply because the name “Jesus” is repeated rhythmically. Rather, it is the message a song conveys that determines whether it is a gospel song.
Gospel music serves a profound spiritual purpose:
1. Doctrinal Reinforcement: Songs embed spiritual truths, scripture, and believer identity into the human spirit through repetition when formal teaching might not be immediately assimilated.
2. Spiritual Stability: Anointed, truth-filled songs bring deliverance, victory, and stability to believers.
3. Global Outreach: Songs often travel faster across cultures, cities, and continents than spoken sermons, carrying truth to distant lands.
Those who minister through song are not merely “music ministers”; they are Gospel Ministers whose mode of expression is music. They must remain deeply grounded in sound doctrine so that their worship aligns perfectly with the truth of scripture.
How do we measure whether a person has finished their divine assignment?
1. It is NOT measured by age or duration. Longevity alone does not equate to fulfillment.
2. It is NOT measured by geographical scope?;Finishing is not determined by how many continents or countries you visit.
3. It is measured by Assignment Consciousness and Consistency. Finishing means coming into full awareness of what God called you to do and doing it faithfully and consistently.
Furthermore, we must distinguish between Eternal life and long life, Eternal life is the very uncreated quality and nature of God’s life. While we trust God for longevity and take practical care of our physical health through proper rest, nutrition, and balance, our highest priority remains spiritual focus and alignment with God’s assignment.
The spiritual progression of fulfillment is:
Vision⟶ Assignment ⟶ Action ⟶ Perseverance⟶ Fruitfulness / Completion.
A Practical Framework for Abounding (A-B-O-U-N-D-I-N-G)
To consistently abound in your divine assignment, implement this practical eight-part framework:
A – Align (Alignment)
Discover and align with God’s specific will for your life.
● Core Question: ”What is God asking of me?”
Romans 12:2 KJV “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
B – Build (Capacity Building)
Deliberately build your spiritual, mental, and practical capacity to carry out your mandate.
● Core Question: ”What must I become to carry out this assignment well?”
1 Timothy 4:15 KJV “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.”
O – Obey (Obedience)
Move swiftly from revelation to action. Remember that delayed obedience is disobedience.
● Core Question: "What must I do now?”
James 1:22 KJV “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”
U – Understand (Study the Assignment) Deliberately study the Assignment.
Gain the requisite knowledge and wisdom required for effective execution.
● Core Question: "What knowledge and wisdom are required for this assignment?”
Proverbs 4:7 KJV “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
N – Nurture / Network (People & Relationships)
Develop godly relationships and strategic collaborations. No individual abounds alone; you abound with and through people.
● Core Question: ”Who are the people God has positioned to walk with me?”
2 Timothy 2:2 KJV “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also”.
When Jesus was taken down from the cross, neither John nor Peter had the political standing or wealth to secure His body. It was Joseph of Arimathea—a man of influence and means—who approached Pilate and fulfilled the prophecy that Messiah would not suffer physical corruption in the grave. You need people across every realm to fulfill divine destiny.
D – Development (Improve Continuously)
Multiply your fruitfulness and expand your Kingdom influence.
● Core Question: "What can be done better?"
I – Increase (To multiply Impact)
● Core Question: "How can this become better?"
N --- Never Quit
Maintain holy persistence and refuse to abandon your assignment when faced with obstacles.
● Core Question: "What must I refuse to abandon?”
Galatians 6:9 KJV “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
G – Give Glory to God
Consistently return all praise, honor, and credit to God.
● Core Question: "Who gets the glory?”
1 Corinthians 10:31 KJV “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”
Conclusion
We know that God alone is the author, finisher, and energizer of every divine assignment. As you align with His will, build capacity, walk in obedience, study your mandate, leverage godly relationships, expand impact, persevere without quitting, and return all glory to Him, you will abound in your assignment and finish your course with joy!
