Luke 17:11-19
From this scripture, the instructions was to go and show themselves to the priest. The emphasis on this scripture is the attitude of one of the lepers, when he saw he was healed he returned. Jesus didn’t lay hands on them or even prayed, he only gave instructions and as they were on their way they were healed. It takes faith to obey such instructions.
The one that saw that he was healed turned around and came back shouting his gratitude. Gratitude is not something that you do and is not known, seen or felt.
The same way he shouted to ask for help is the same way he shouted with gratitude when he received help. Gratitude makes us to look back at different stages and seasons of your life. The one that came back was grateful for his cleansing even though he was not totally whole. We must learn to look back. Jesus even demanded for the remaining 9 lepers.
Pastor explained that we must learn to look back. The scripture we read shows us that only one leper came back and Jesus said to him “Your Faith has made you whole”.
Jesus was expecting all of them to return. Jesus was not excited that the remaining nine did not return. We need to know how to return back and show gratitude to those that came through for us in times of need.
The energy you used in asking should be the same energy you use to show gratitude. You should not have any entitlement mentality.
The same way the leper that came back shouting for help, is the same way he also shouted his gratitude. We should learn how to appreciate what people do for us.
There is a lesson to learn in the scripture we read, if Jesus don’t want us to learn from it, he won’t be asking for the remaining nine that didn’t return.
For some people to give you a certain amount of money, no matter how big or little it is, it is their labour that earned them that money. Appreciate it.
Ten lepers were healed and one of them felt that they haven’t gotten to where they were going and was healed. That one leper didn’t get to the priest before he came back to show gratitude.
One “thank you” is not enough for a gift someone gave you. Cultivate the habit to constantly showing appreciation.
We take things for granted too much. The same way we show appreciation when someone helps or come through for us should be the same way we should show gratitude to God.
One of the reasons why people don’t turn back to show gratitude is that most of us are guilty of the sin of forgetfulness. We have short memory.
Psalms 78:7 NKJV “That they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments.”
Do not forget the mercies of God. You can’t choose to forget. People forget too soon. Deuteronomy 32:15 talks about how Jeshurun forgot about God. There is a generation called Jeshurun. There are people that are referred to as Jeshurun. They abandoned the God who made them and made God jealous with their foreign gods. In this present generation the gods could be our jobs, marriage, international open doors, things we believed God for.
The people in Jeshurun’s generation were rejected but God will not reject us because grace has covered us. This is the reason why some Christian’s have become irresponsible. God will not reject us but he is not also happy with our irresponsibility.
Never you get to a point where God is jealous of what he blessed you with. We are sons and daughters of God who ought to make God proud at all times. We should not allow God regret creating or equipping us.
Isaiah 17:10
A lot of those men forgot their fortress. The Lord didn’t take it lightly with them in those days but for us we have received and we enjoy grace., hence, we should not take for granted the goodness of God.
We thank him and don’t forget what he has done for us. Many have forgotten their story. Never be ungrateful.
Allow gratitude take you to your root. Remember people who has helped you become all that you are today. Don’t deny those who helped you grow in faith.
Psalm 44:20
There is a possibility for a man to forget his God and hallow a recent and a new god.
God weighs our actions and intentions. As men, we do not know that God searches and knows our hearts. He knows the secret of our hearts.
Lamentation 3:20.
Logic does not count. God weighs and knows. This is telling us not to forget. We should act in remembrance. What the scripture is saying was a warning to our soul to never forget but always remember. We should train our souls to be thankful.
When the soul remembers, it is humbled even if it is now in a great estate., in abundance and in plenty.
Even if the year hasn’t been glamorous as you expect, there are things you should call to mind and start showing gratitude for.
Remembrance do things for us. It brings us to a place of humility, gratefulness and hope in God.
If you don’t call to remembrance the catalogue of the mercies and goodness of God, you may not find something to be grateful for. The economy can alter your mental health. It can cause depression it may even make you proud if you don’t remember how and where you began from.
Learn to call your soul back to remembrance. Your soul should not forget.
