Psalm 121:1-2
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. There is a time when a man will deliberately seek help. While we are looking for help, the source is very important. The Psalmist when speaking about his help, he said it comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. He emphasised this because it is one thing for us to know the source of our help and another thing to know the strength of our helper. We can conclude that the Lord is our help and he has all power to do exceedingly beyond what we can think. Our helper can do what no man can do. We are confident in this.
Psalm 124: 8 Our help is in the hand of the Lord.
We should be confident that our helper is capable, so we cannot be stranded. When we look to men for help, we can be stranded but not with God. There was a certain time Israel experienced famine and a particular woman saw the king passing by, she cried and said aloud asking for help from the king. His response was he also can’t help himself except the Lord sends help.
2 Kings 6:27
So, we see that turning to men for help is not the solution. Also, whenever we are faced with a challenge and our income or influence can fix it, then it means that we are actually not needing help.
Psalm 146:5-7, speaks of God’s character and integrity. He gives justice to the oppressed and food to the needy. David showed us all of this to mean that his helper cannot be stranded and he is able. A man may not need help if he has sufficiency. We need to come to a point where we are very conscious of our helper. We need to come to the place of understanding that we choose to settle with God. You also need to know that when a man helps us it is because God was involved.
David is saying that there is a wing of help for us. We can come under this wing, this shelter that God provides. He is sufficient and dependable.
Psalms 63:7
Psalms 119:173, Isaiah 41:10, Isaiah 50:7-11
Vs 8 and 9 centred around the Lord. But a closer look at verse 10 says, “Who walks in darkness and let him trust in the name of the Lord?”
Vs 1, There is a difference between spark and the light. There is something called fire, light and spark. What God gives a man is a light. Spark represents the help we seek outside God. Momentarily we have only a solution but not so, because it is only a spark. Walk in the light of your fire, in the spark you have kindled for ourselves. Verse 10 says we have been waiting and trusting the Lord and darkness seems to be around. We should rather wait for the light of God and not the spark.
Any help that is not sponsored by God, may look like what we are looking for but they do not last, they are sparks, they are not light. Whatever the Lord doeth shall abide forever.
There is no reverse testimony in God. We must be willing to wait on the leading of God. We must not look for a speedy answer. As we are waiting in the darkness we must keep saying surely the Lord is our helper, our helper is in the name of the Lord. We must not scheme our help.
We must wait for the help of the Lord. When a man is our sponsor we cannot go far. If such a man is sacked from his job, the help is gone. God can raise a better channel. We must not put our confidence in the channel.
We must know how to differentiate from the source and the channel. Even if the channel is a very good one. Our confidence should be on the source and not the channel. In the journey of life, we cannot go far with the spark in our hands. We must walk in His light. We must rely upon the Lord.
We must trust in the name of the Lord. There are moments in our lives that waiting on God is a tough work. However, we must not go for the spark. We must walk in the light.
In the process of expecting light when walking in the dark, we must not scheme for help. We must not orchestrate it but wait upon the Lord. We must choose to wait as it is very tough. Please wait on the Lord. When men render help to others, sometimes they do it for themselves.
In the midst of desperation and need you need to be sensitive about the help that comes. Our helper is capable. Some trust in horses some trust in chariots but we trust in the name of the Lord. Wait and rely on God. In Isaiah 41 vs 10, we see that we are to fear not. When it seems as if your life is in perplexity, as if your life will not amount to anything good, God will come and say fear not. If a man is not afraid, he won’t say fear not.
The Psalmist cried, “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock.”
Psalm 64:1-2
He didn’t play Superman, he knew where to go. He understood his source and the strength of his source.
There is a hand over your hand. When God knows that what you have in your hand is not sufficient and becomes afraid, he will come and strengthen them. Your visions and dreams should be bigger than you, that’s when you need help. If it is not bigger than you then you don’t need help.
A man will not need help if he has sufficiency. You can’t do big things alone, you will need help. There is no self made man, but help made men. The Psalmist understood that only his hand is not capable.
The reason why men can’t try big things is because of fear; doing this they’ve lost several opportunities and also missed out on the supernatural plan of God because they’ve not come to understand the fact that a man operates with the hand of God.
However the psalmist understood this so he said “let your hands become my help”.
So,God is saying “fear not, I the Lord your God will hold your right hand”.
Reading from verse 14 of Isaiah 41, it says “fear not you worm Jacob” this means God knew and understood the capacity of Jacob so, He goes on to say “you men of Israel I will help you”.
Isaiah 41:14
Consequently, God understands your strength and capacity but still He’s saying “I will help you”.
Going on to the next verse 15 ” Behold I will make you into a new threshing instrument”. It meant that God wants to help Jacob who He likened to a worm into a new sharp threshing instrument with sharp teeth.
This is what the help of God does to the life of a man.
Be at the right place at the right time cause time and chance is the product of the help of God. Ecclesiastes 9:11
My maker is my helper that is why he is committed to protecting his hand work.
Isaiah 44:2 – The one that made and formed you will help you.
Isaiah 46:4 – God is committed to us even to our old age. From the womb to the tomb is the commitment of Yaweh to us.
